MAYS LANDING – An Atlantic County grand jury indicted a Cape May County woman today on seven fraud-related charges for allegedly changing the amount of Percocet pills prescribed to her by a Northfield dentist to a higher amount on two occasions, Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel said.
Jacklyn Tyce, 24, of Rio Grande allegedly took legally obtained prescriptions to the CVS Pharmacy on Tilton Road in Egg Harbor Township on April 19 and April 21. However, before getting her prescriptions filled Tyce altered the prescription amounts from eight to 18 pills. The pharmacy brought it to the attention of the state Division of Consumer Affairs, Drug Control Unit and on July 7 the matter was referred to the Prosecutor’s Office. In addition to obtaining a controlled dangerous substance by fraud, Tyce was indicted on charges of forgery of prescriptions and healthcare claims fraud, according to Assistant Prosecutor John Flammer who presented the case to the grand jury.
The Prosecutor’s Office financial crimes and insurance fraud unit Det. Ryan Ripley conducted the investigation, which led to charges being filed against Tyce.
Crimes of the third-degree carry a maximum prison term of five years and a $15,000 fine.
