Rescue Call Leads to Drug Arrest in Lower Township

By Press Release

VILLAS- Lower Township Police received a 9-1-1 call from a resident in the 100 block of Oregon Avenue in the Villas Section of Lower Township, on Saturday, Oct. 26 at approximately 7 p.m.
The female caller stated that there was a male at the house, who appeared to be catatonic and unresponsive. Police and Rescue Squad were dispatched.
When Officer Kaitlyn Black and Special Officer Patrick Aiken arrived at the home, they encountered John Labaco, who was seated upright on the couch, staring straight ahead. When the officers tried to speak with him, he produced a homemade tin foil pipe and tried to light it in front of the officers saying he needed, “one more hit.”
The officers also observed a few very small pieces of what appeared to be rock cocaine on his lap. The officers attempted to stop Labaco and a struggle ensued. Labaco was subsequently arrested. He was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, as well as several drug charges.
After being released from the hospital, he was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail, issued by Lower Township Municipal Court Judge, Thomas Hillegass.
No injuries were sustained by either of the officers or the suspect.
