Raging Man Assaults Four Officers

By Herald Staff

VILLAS — On Saturday, April 4 at approximately 1:30 a.m., Lower Township police Officers responded to the 100 Block of East New York Avenue after receiving a call from a taxi driver reporting that he had been assaulted by a man he had just dropped off at that location.
The taxi driver reported that after paying the cab fare, the subject identified as Jorge Sierra, 34, became combative with the driver, punching the driver several times and breaking the windshield on the taxi.
When Patrolman Mike Perry interviewed Sierra regarding the incident, Sierra became combative and threatened the officer. Perry then requested back up and attempted to place Sierra under arrest for obstruction of justice. Sierra then physically resisted arrest. Patrolman Ryan Hansberry arrived on scene and assisted Perry with the arrest of Sierra.
While officers were arresting Sierra, a large male, later identified as Jorge Richardson, 18, described as approximately 6’2” tall, 285 pounds came out of the house in what officers described as a “rage,” yelling profanities and stating, “I will take on all of you cops.Cops are my specialty.”
Richardson then assumed a fighting stance and advanced on the officers. At this time Sergeant Thomas Beeby and Patrolman Ken McGurk arrived on scene. Richardson was then advised by the officers that he was under arrest for obstruction however, he refused repeated commands to get down on his knees with his hands behind his head.
When Richardson continued to advance on the officers, he was pepper maced several times, after which he began to yell, “This stuff doesn’t do anything to me.”
Richardson then began to punch and kick at the officers. One officer then struck Richardson several times in the legs with his baton in order to bring him under control for handcuffing. The whole time Richardson continued to throw punches and kicks at the officers while yelling profanities at them.
It took all four officers present, to finally bring Richardson under control, on the ground and handcuffed in a struggle that lasted approximately four minutes.
Sierra and Richardson were transported to the Lower Township Police Department for processing where Richardson was treated by members of the Lower Township Rescue Squad for the effects of Pepper Mace.
Sierra was lodged in county jail in lieu of $10,000 bail on the following charges: obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, simple assault of the taxi driver and criminal mischief for damaging the taxi cab.
Richardson was lodged in county jail in lieu of $50,000 bail on the following charges: obstruction of justice, resisting arrest with physical force used against officers, and four counts of aggravated assault on officers.
