WILDWOOD — Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Wildwood Police Chief Steven Long announced the arrest of Ismael Ayala, 37, on Mon., May 2 for aggravated assault.
According to a release, about 11:30 p.m., Wildwood patrol officers responded to the 200 East block of Hand Avenue for the report of an assault. When police arrived, they found Ayala reportedly attempting to re-enter the victim’s residence via a window he allegedly broke. He was arrested at the scene.
An investigation by Wildwood Police Patrol and Detective Divisions and the Prosecutor’s Office revealed that Ayala allegedly assaulted Leonoi Rodriguez, 38, repeatedly with a large kitchen knife, and manually choked her around the neck.
Ayala was charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, robbery, burglary, and various weapons offenses. He was remanded to county jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
Taylor and Long lauded the “quick response of the Wildwood Police Department’s Patrol Officers” for “likely preventing more serious injuries to the victim.”
