RIO GRANDE — On Sept. 7 at 9:13 p.m., Middle Township police received a 9-1-1 call reporting that someone had just been stabbed and robbed.
The victim was banging on a door in the Shannon Oaks section of Rio Grande.
Police spoke with the victim, Michael Harpel Jr., 24, of Woodbine, who stated that he was stabbed in the leg by George Flanagan, 26, of Woodbine, with a razor box cutter. Harpel said Flanagan also took over $150 from him.
According to police, Harpel had a three-inch-by-half-inch laceration to his right shin. Rio Grande Rescue transported him to Cape Regional Medical Center.
Flanagan was charged with robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. There is active warrant that exists for George Flanagan, who is still at large.
Patrolman Loftus, Detective Sgt. Chris Murphy and Detective First Class Alan McClure investigated this case. Lower Township Detective Chris Lambert of assisted in the investigation of this case.
According to the state Department of Corrections, Flanagan served time previously on drug and child endangerment charges. He was paroled on Aug. 26, 2008 from the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility in Yardville, Burlington County after an incarceration of two years.
