NORTH CAPE MAY – Lower Township Police responded to a 911 call of a robbery at the Crest Savings Bank, located at 3306 Bayshore Road in North Cape May Feb. 25 at 1:34 p.m., Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Lower Township Police Chief William Mastriana announced in a release Feb. 26.
Upon arrival of police, the employees stated that a male wearing a ski mask and holding a dark-colored automatic handgun entered the bank at 1:30 p.m. and demanded cash. After obtaining an undetermined amount of cash the male fled running across Bayshore Road into a wooded area. This male is further described as a white or Hispanic male approximately 5’7, 145 lbs, wearing all dark clothing.
A subsequent investigation was immediately initiated by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit, the Detective Unit of the Lower Township Police Department, Cape May County Sheriff’s K-9, Delaware River and Bay Authority, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the New Jersey State Police, Aviation Unit.
This investigation is presently ongoing and further details will be forthcoming pursuant to the investigation.
