WILDWOOD — A 32-year-old construction worker and his girlfriend were arrested Sept. 23 in connection with a reported strong-arm robbery.
The victim, a 60- year-old female, reported that she was physically assaulted by an individual who forcibly removed her bag from her possession and fled on foot, in the area of 3000 boardwalk in this city. Immediately following the robbery, several unidentified citizens pursued the suspect and saw him enter a second floor apartment of 406 East Magnolia Avenue.
When police arrived on scene, they contacted the resident of the apartment and were eventually given permission to search the property. Richard Steel, an individual matching the description provided by the victim and witnesses, was located hiding inside a closet of the apartment.
Steel’s girlfriend, Danielle Sprague, 30-year-old employed as a local waitress, was charged with providing fictitious information to officers during the investigation. Sprague was released on a summons pending a future court appearance. Steel was charged with second-degree robbery and placed in the county jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
