Police Nab 2,000 Bags of Heroin, Arrest Man

WILDWOOD – Members of the Wildwood Police Department Street Crimes Unit concluded a four-week investigation June 20 concerning the sales of narcotics from a 2012 Hyundai Sonata, blue in color, from various locations within the City of Wildwood. 
At approximately 3:15 p.m. June 20, members of the Wildwood Police Department Street Crimes Unit conducted a motor vehicle stop on that vehicle for observed violations with the assistance of Wildwood Police Department patrol officers.
During the course of the motor vehicle stop, officers on scene detected the odor of raw marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Accordingly, a narcotics K-9 unit from the Cape May County Sheriff’s Department was requested to assist in the investigation. A short time later, the K-9 unit arrived on scene and alerted to a positive indication for the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.
During the developing investigation, a court authorized search warrant was obtained for the vehicle. The search warrant was executed on the vehicle, resulting in the seizure of approximately 2,000 baggies of suspected heroin, with a street value of $20,000. The suspected heroin was pre-packaged for street level sales. Also seized was approximately eight grams of methamphetamine. Additionally seized was narcotics paraphernalia commonly associated with narcotics distribution.
As a result of the investigation, Luis Gonzalez, 31, residing in Mays Landing, was charged with possession of heroin, third degree, distribution of heroin over a half ounce, second degree, distribution of heroin within 500′ of certain public property, second degree, distribution of heroin within 500′ of a school, third degree, possession of CDS schedule I through IV, third degree, distribution of CDS schedule I through IV, third degree, distribution of CDS schedule I through IV within 500′ of certain public property, second degree, distribution of CDS schedule I through IV within 500′ of a school, third degree, and possession of narcotics paraphernalia, a disorderly persons offense.
Judge Andrew Cafiero of the Wildwood Municipal Court authorized the warrant complaint for Gonzalez.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
