By Press Release

RIO GRANDE – Patrolman Salvesen was on patrol in the Rio Grande section of Middle Township Feb. 14 at 8:12 p.m. He observed a blue Honda traveling north on SH 47. The Honda was missing the front driver’s side tire and was riding on the rim.
Patrolman Salvesen attempted to stop the vehicle. The Honda failed to yield and continued on at low speed. The pursuit ended at the driver’s residence on Teal Road in Rio Grande.
The driver, who was later identified as Stephen Schweizer, 40, of Rio Grande, was arrested after a brief struggle. He was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, eluding, driving while intoxicated and various motor vehicle summons.
Schweizer was lodged in Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of $25,000.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
