Police Make Arrest in Ship-N-Shore Assault

WILDWOOD — On June 25 at about 9:15 p.m., Wildwood police responded to the Ship-N-Shore Bar, 434 W. Montgomery Ave., on an assault report.
When police arrived, they learned that Matthew Farmer, 38, had assaulted Scott Long, 49, both of Wildwood Crest.
Farmer fled from the scene, but was followed by a bar patron, who used his cell phone to update the police about his location. Farmer was taken into custody by police at Baker and Hudson avenues a few minutes later without incident.
Long suffered injuries to his head, elbows and legs and was treated and released from Cape Regional Medical Center.
Investigation revealed that Farmer went over a four-foot fence to get to Long. Farmer continued to punch Long with a closed fist about the head, even after Mr. Long was unconscious and in a helpless state, police said.
Farmer was charged with aggravated assault and leaving a person whom be had injured at a scene knowing that the person was physically helpless.
He was lodged in county jail in lieu of $50,000 bail set by Judge David DeWeese.
