Police Investigate Two Arson Fires in Swainton

SWAINTON – Middle Township Police Department received a 911 call reporting a fire in the 1200 block of St. Andrews Drive in Swainton July 10 at 3:09 a.m. A second 911 call reporting a fire in the 1400 block of St. Andrews came in while Cape May Court House Fire Company and patrol units were responding to the area. As units were arriving on scene it was immediately known that the fires were due to arson. The fires were quickly put out by Cape May Court House Fire Company. The Cape May County Fire Marshall along with the Prosecutor’s Office responded to assist the Middle Township Major Crime Unit with the investigation.
St. Andrews Drive is part of the Links of Avalon development which consists of townhouses. Preliminary investigation indicates one or more suspects put gasoline in plastic containers around the perimeter of the two buildings on the 1200 and 1400 block of St. Andrews Drive.
The Middle Township Police Department and Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office are taking this incident very seriously and ask anyone with information to call the Middle Township Police Department at 465-8700, or anonymously call the Cape May County Crimes Stoppers at 465-2800.
