Police Investigate Hit and Run Motor Vehicle Accident in Erma

ERMA – Lower Township Police Department responded to a hit and run motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Seashore and Tabernacle Roads in Erma Aug. 20 at 4:58 a.m.
The 2001 Ford Taurus, owned and operated by Ryan P. Freeling, 19, who resides in the 100 block of West New Jersey Avenue in Villas, was traveling south on Seashore Road when, for unknown reasons, it left the roadway, striking a traffic signal and proceeding through a chain link fence in the 600 block of Rt. 9 in Erma. After going through the chain link fence, the vehicle struck and damaged two boat trailers and two boats which were being stored there.
Freeling, along with his passenger, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. With the assistance of the Cape May County Sheriff Department’s K9 unit, Freeling was apprehended at his residence in Villas. Freeling was charged with multiple summonses in regard to the motor vehicle accident and is also being charged criminally with providing false information to law enforcement officers.
The accident investigation is being conducted by Patrolman Edward Edwards and Patrolman Steven Flitcroft. Anyone who may have witnessed this accident is asked to contact either officer at 609-886-2711 ext. 124.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
