Police Investigate Attempted Credit Card Fraud and Impersonation of Police Officer

By Press Release

A Lower Township business manager received a suspicious phone call Oct. 17. He received a call at his place of business from a male subject who identified himself as a Middle Township Police Detective. The caller was requesting credit card numbers and account names from the previous day’s receipts, stating he was investigating a large credit card fraud case.
The vigilant business manager placed the caller on hold and immediately called Middle Township Police Department and confirmed that no such detective was employed there.
Upon returning to the conversation with the imposter, the manager attempted to obtain as much information as possible to further the investigation.
The information obtained through this call was investigated by Lower Township Patrolman, John Armbruster and has yielded no suspect(s).
Middle Township Police Department has provided portions of the recorded call (above). Anyone with information or who may recognize the voice of the suspect, are encouraged to call Middle Township Police at 609-465-8700 or Lower Township Police Department at 609-886-1619, extension 116.
Please note: No customer information was compromised and all business owners and managers should remain alert for these types of calls and report them to the police department immediately.
