Police Charge Police Imposter with Robbery, Weapons Offenses

WILDWOOD — On Fri., July 9 just after midnight, Wildwood police responded to the Wawa convenience store at New Jersey and Pine avenues. to investigate a report of a robbery.
Upon arrival on the scene, the victim, a 38-year-old male from Whitesboro, reported that he had just been robbed at Schellenger and New Jersey avenues.
He told police that a white male, who identified himself as a Wildwood police officer and displayed a handgun in his waistband, asked him for a cigarette. The victim pointed out the subject in the Wawa parking lot, noting that he was still armed. Officers took the subject into custody and found a BB gun on his person.
Jed A. Barton, 34, of Wildwood, was charged with armed robbery, impersonating a police officer, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was lodged in county jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail set by Judge David S. DeWeese.
