Police Charge One Adult, One Juvenile with Shoplifting, Weapon Possession

STONE HARBOR – Stone Harbor Police Officer Matthew Sokorai was dispatched to a store in the 200 block of 96th Street for a reported shoplifting of a dress that had just occurred Aug. 1 at 12:41 p.m.
Upon arrival, Officer Sokorai was provided with a description of the female suspect, her companion, and shown video footage from the store’s surveillance cameras. Officer Sokorai provided a description of the subjects to other Stone Harbor Police units and SLEO II Jessica Letter, while on routine patrol, located the suspects at 96th and Second Avenue. The subjects were identified as Brennah Riley, 18, and a 17- year-old male. Riley was found to be in possession of the stolen dress and placed under arrest. A search of her property located three additional stolen items from two additional businesses in Stone Harbor. The juvenile was taken into protective custody and upon being taken into custody, was found to be in possession of a 7″ tactical folding knife.
Brennah Riley was transported to the Stone Harbor Police Department where she was processed, issued a summons for shoplifting valued at over $200, a crime of the fourth degree, and released on summons.
The juvenile was taken to the Stone Harbor Police Department where his parent was notified and he was released with formal charges pending for the weapon.
This matter is pending review by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and Stone Harbor Police Department juvenile division.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty
