WILDWOOD – Wildwood Police Department Detective Division charged Robert Grimley, 43, of Palermo, NJ, owner of the Gillmore Hotel located at 134 E. Schellenger Ave. in Wildwood, with maintaining a nuisance Aug. 14. The charge comes after numerous calls for police services associated with the Gillmore Hotel, a majority of which were related to the sale of narcotics from the building.
Between Feb. 14, 2014, and Aug. 9, 2014, the Wildwood Police Department responded to approximately 68 calls for service at the Gillmore Hotel. Of these calls, approximately 50 were related to the sales and/or purchases of narcotics from the property. These investigations resulted in the arrest of 46 individuals, of which 20 were charged with the possession of narcotics, 10 were charged with the distribution of narcotics, and 16 were charged with other narcotics associated offenses. The Wildwood Police Department also responded to two reported heroin overdoes which took place within the hotel. Both of these subjects were transported to the hospital and survived.
The Wildwood Police Department and the Code Enforcement Office could not be reached for comment.
On August 5, 2014, the problems associated with the Gillmore Hotel culminated in a shooting which took place inside the building. During the incident, a subject was shot through the leg with an arrow deployed from a cross bow. The incident resulted in the arrest of a resident of the hotel for obstruction and hindering apprehension, while a second resident of the hotel, Jonathan Moya, was charged with attempted murder. Moya is still at large.
The maintaining a nuisance charge contends that Grimley knowingly operated the Gillmore Hotel as a location where individuals gathered for the purpose of engaging in illegal activities. Maintaining a nuisance is a disorderly persons offense.
Attempts to contact Grimley were unsuccessful.
The property, listed at 134 E. Schellenger Ave., is currently for sale, at $699,000 on several real estate websites.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
