By Herald Staff

COURT HOUSE — On March 31 at 1:13 a.m., Middle Township police responded to a 911 call reporting that someone had broken into an apartment at 104 South Main Street.
Upon arrival officers found a broken window to the door of the apartment and blood throughout the residence. Still on scene was the accused Ashley J. Brownstein, 24, of Illinois Avenue in Cape May. Brownstein was taken into custody at that time.
Further investigation revealed that Brownstein had forced entry into the residence and assaulted Karen Davis, as well as broke a gold chain worn by Davis. Also in the home were Davis’s two juvenile children, ages 16 and 17.
Brownstein was charged with burglary, criminal mischief and simple assault. Her bail was set at $50,000.00, ten percent. She was lodged in the county jail.
Middle Township Rescue responded to police headquarters to treat cuts on Brownstein’s arms from broken glass. Patrolman Leonard Larkin and Detective Kenneth Martin investigated the incident.
