Police Arrest Woman for Allegedly Assaulting Her Disabled Mother in Borough Hall Restrooms

By Press Release

STONE HARBOR – During a session of Stone Harbor Municipal Court, Stone Harbor Police Officers were alerted by a citizen of a woman assaulting a disabled elderly woman, who was wheelchair bound, in one of the restrooms adjacent to the Courtroom. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Deborah Stella, 64, who was in Stone Harbor Municipal Court on a transferred domestic violence assault case from Avalon Municipal Court, had assaulted her disabled 95-year-old mother by pushing her against the restroom wall and then, according to a witness statement, ‘slamming her onto the toilet’ while yelling obscenities at her. When placed under arrest, Stella began resisting officer control during handcuffing and refusing to cooperate by kicking her legs as she was escorted to the police department.
Case assisted by the Stone Harbor Rescue Squad who evaluated the mother for injuries. No injuries were reported.
Judge John W. Fowler Jr. granted a temporary restraining order against Stella. Stella was processed and released on summonses for simple assault, harassment, and resisting arrest. The restraining order has been referred to Family Court and a court date for Stella is pending in Stone Harbor Municipal Court.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
