Police Arrest Two for Burglary

ERMA – Police were called to a residence on Shunpike Road in the Erma section of Lower Township for a burglary Feb. 11.
The initial investigation revealed numerous items were taken including prescription medication, jewelry, coins and computer tablets. Utilizing online tracking software, the owner, along with police were able to track the tablet to another residence on Shunpike Road in close proximity to the scene of the burglary. Police attempted to make contact with someone at the address, however were unsuccessful.
On the morning of Feb. 12, detectives again checked the online tracking system which still showed the tablet at the suspected address on Shunpike Road. Detectives and patrol officers responded to the address and were subsequently able to obtain a search warrant for the residence. Upon the execution of the search warrant two subjects were found hiding inside the residence. A thorough search of the home yielded an amount of heroin, drug paraphernalia and items belonging to the victims, including the tablets.
Michael P. Kelly, 41, was charged with resisting arrest, burglary, theft, possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. Kelly was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center on $50,000 bail.
James A. Clouse, 58, was arrested in the home on an outstanding warrant out of Lower Township Municipal Court.
Lower Township Police were assisted in the execution of the search warrant by the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendants are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
