CAPE MAY – Cape May Police Department Captain Robert E. Sheehan announced Aug. 31 the arrest of Salvatore Cutaia, Jr., 35, of Staten Island, N.Y., Aug. 29 at approximately 9:45 a.m. for burglary of a Beach Drive motel office which occurred the same day.
The investigation began at approximately 4:30 a.m. when officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Beach Drive for a report that a motel owner discovered an intruder in the motel office.
Cape May County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit assisted in the search for the suspect that was seen fleeing the area on foot after being confronted by the motel owner. The motel’s video surveillance system was able to record the event and assisted in the eventual identification and arrest of the suspect. The investigation also revealed that the suspect, identified as Cutaia, was staying on property at the motel.
Cutaia is charged with burglary, a third degree offense. Bail was set by Cape May Municipal Court Judge Belasco at $7,500. Cutaia’s initial court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 2 at 9 a.m.
