By Press Release

CAPE MAY – Kenneth M. O’Leary, 51, of Delran, N.J., was arrested by the Cape May Police Department Oct. 30 at 1:55 p.m. on charges related to a jewelry theft in excess of $60,000 that occurred Sept. 17 from a Washington Street Mall store.
Police were contacted at 1:41 p.m. Oct. 30 by an alert local area business that reported spotting a person in the area that the caller believed to be the person in the Sept. 17 store surveillance photograph that had been distributed through the Police Department’s social media sites in an attempt to identify the subject.
Officer Scott Krissinger arrived in the area and located the subject, now identified as O’Leary. O’Leary was arrested and transported to police headquarters.
O’Leary is charged with two counts of unlawful possession of prescription drugs, fourth degree crime and disorderly persons offense, and theft, third degree, and is being held in the Cape May County Correctional Center on $50,000 bail. He is scheduled for an initial appearance in Cape May Municipal Court Wednesday Nov. 5 at 9 a.m.
During the initial investigation in Sept., Cape May Detectives learned that a person fitting O’Leary’s description and/or recorded on surveillance video/photo systems in other jurisdictions, is suspected of similar thefts in northern New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
