Police Arrest Man Found on Lawn With Psilocybin Mushrooms

By Press Release

STONE HARBOR – While on routine patrol Sept. 13 at 1:27 a.m., Officer Matthew Sokorai was flagged down by a motorist who advised him of a person who appeared passed out, laying on a lawn with a bicycle next to him.
Upon his arrival in the area of 102nd Street and Second Avenue, Officer Sokorai located Michael G. Wallace laying on the sidewalk with a bicycle next to him. Officer Sokorai observed a clear plastic bag containing what was later believed to be mushrooms hanging out of Wallace’s front pants pocket. Officer Sokorai secured the clear plastic bag as evidence and, after several attempts, Wallace was awoken. Wallace was found to be under the influence of alcoholic beverages and/or drugs.
Wallace was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled dangerous substance and transported to the Stone Harbor Police Department. Wallace was processed and charged with a third degree crime, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, specifically a schedule I narcotic, psilocybin mushrooms, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
This matter is pending review by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
