NORTH CAPE MAY — On Sunday, Jan. 11 at approximately 10:26 p.m., Lower Township police responded to the first block of Croydon Drive for a report of a burglary that had just occurred.
As officers arrived, they noticed jackets that had been left behind by the perpetrators and notified the county Sheriffs Department K-9 Unit for a tracking dog.
According to a release, before the Sheriff arrived Patrolman Eric Coombs and Corporal Dave Fisher located a male carrying several bags that had been taken from the property. When asked what he was doing, he said he was coming from shopping.
The bags contained perfume, collector’s coins and currency, two gold rings, one gold necklace, various lighters and other miscellaneous items including a can of mushrooms.
The items where identified by the victim and returned. In addition, the subject was found in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Michael T. Hurley Jr., 31, of the first block of Beachhurst Drive, was charged with burglary and theft on a warrant.
He was also charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Hurley was lodged in county jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail set by Judge David DeWeese.
Patrolmen Ryan Hansberry and Dave Fisher, Detective Edward Dougherty and Corp. David Fisher investigated the case.
