STONE HARBOR – Kareem Abou-Gharbia approached Officer Boyle and SLED II Williams while they were conducting a foot patrol and stated he was concerned for the safety of an unknown man in a local tavern. Abou-Gharbia told officers that there had been a verbal altercation in the bar and he thought it might escalate. The officers determined that there was no on-going altercation or threat to anyone’s safety. While speaking about the incident with the officers, Abou-Gharbia stated, “I might have a NCIC (National Crime Information Center) warrant.” A check of Abou-Gharbia’s information confirmed he was in fact wanted out of Chester County, Pennsylvania for false alarms to agencies of public safety and two counts of controlled substance, drug, device, and cosmetic act. He was also found to be wanted out of Virginia for a shoplifting related offense, however Virginia authorities did not wish to extradite from New Jersey.
Abou-Gharbia was arrested without incident. He was charged on a no-bail warrant issued by Superior Court with being a fugitive from justice, and lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
