NORTH WILDWOOD – North Wildwood Police officers attempted to serve a warrant on the 200 block of West Chestnut Avenue June 30 at approximately 9:23 a.m.
Initially, officers were unable to serve the warrant at the residence. Minutes later, officers observed a male and a female exit the residence and observed the male flee from the area. The male, William McDonald, was wanted out of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Delaware County, for drug related charges. Officer Joseph Kopetsky arrested McDonald shortly after, finding him hiding in a public bathroom stall located at Pine and Olde New Jersey Avenues. The female, Joanne Toomey, was arrested by Officer Jerald Garriott after she provided police with false information about the identity of McDonald.
McDonald, 32, residing in Upper Darby, PA, was arrested and charged with being a fugitive from justice from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. McDonald also had a warrant out of Middle Township Municipal Court for an ordinance violation. He was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center where he is awaiting extradition.
Toomey, 32, residing in Drexel Hill, PA, was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension. She was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center on a warrant for this charge by Judge Louis Belasco with bail set at $10,000/10 percent.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendants are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
