Police Arrest Fugitive Found Hiding in Bedroom Closet

NORTH WILDWOOD – North Wildwood Police responded to the 100 block of North New York Avenue Oct. 14 at 8:38 p.m. for a report of a person inside a residence who wasn’t supposed to be there.
Officers Kevin Tolan Jr., Cliff Massie and Patrick Flynn approached the residence and made entry. As officers searched the residence, Daniel Cheney, 49, from Westmont, N.J. was found hiding in a closet in a bedroom. Further investigation revealed that Cheney was a fugitive from justice from New York for grand larceny. Cheney was also wanted by Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office, and Runnemede, Haddon Township and Washington Township municipal courts on various warrants. 
Cheney was arrested by Officer Tolan Jr. and charged with being a fugitive from justice from New York and was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center where he is awaiting extradition.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
