COURT HOUSE — According to Lt. Chris Leusner, Middle Township police Thursday, Aug. 13 at 9:50 p.m. apprehended a suspect wanted for attempted murder out of Maryland.
Middle Township Police Department Street Crimes Unit and the department’s Patrol Division arrested Oley Rowell, 25, from Randallstown, Md. on George Street, Whitesboro.
Rowell was wanted out of Anne Arundel County, Maryland for numerous charges including: attempted murder, assault, burglary and possession of a concealed dangerous weapon.
Rowell was charged as a fugitive from justice and lodged in county jail in lieu of $100,000 full cash bail by Superior Court Judge Max A. Baker.
Rowell had served time in New Jersey from Sept. 27, 2002 to Aug. 25, 2004 for drug distribution on school property.
Rowell was a Middle Township High School basketball guard in 2002. That was the team that captured the South Jersey Group II championship on March 4 by defeating Point Pleasant Borough, 54-52. It was the first time the school won the South Jersey title since 1997.
On May 23, 2002, Rowell, 18, of Whitesboro was arrested at the school, charged by School Officer Sgt. Jeffrey Saduk with possession of marijuana and intent to distribute, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana in a school zone.
According to police at the time, Rowell’s arrest followed information received by the school administration of suspicious activity involving him. He was jailed in lieu of $15,000 cash bail.
