WILDWOOD – Wildwood Police Department Uniform Patrol Division and Detective Division responded to the 5300 block of Atlantic Avenue located in the City of Wildwood, in connection to a burglary of one of the motel units, not in progress Monday, Feb. 23.
During the follow-up investigation, it was determined that entry was forcibly gained by means of a rear window located on the first floor level of the complex. The interior and the exterior of the unit was processed for physical/forensic evidence.
Shortly thereafter, the Wildwood Police Department received a second 911 emergency call from the owner of the motel complex, reporting that the individual responsible for the previously reported burglary had returned. Accordingly, a physical and clothing description along with the individuals direction of travel was provided to police communications. As a result of the information provided by the caller, members of the Wildwood Crest Police Department Uniform Patrol Division, apprehended the individual in their jurisdiction.
As a result of the follow-up investigation by detectives from the Wildwood Police Department and the Wildwood Crest Police Department, the suspect was identified as Aaron Corley, 25, of Lower Township. During the developing investigation, Corley was linked to three separate burglaries in Wildwood and one burglary in Wildwood Crest.
Corley is charged with the following criminal offenses in the City of Wildwood; burglary three counts, crimes of the third degree, and theft of movable property, crime of the fourth degree. Judge Dorothy Garrabrant of the Wildwood Municipal Court authorized bail at $80,000 cash, no ten percent all charges. Additionally, Corley was charged by Wildwood Crest Police Department for burglary, a crime of the third degree, and obstruction, a crime of the fourth degree. Judge Louis Belasco of the Wildwood Crest Municipal Court authorized bail at $25,000 cash, no ten percent. Corley was unable to post bail and was incarcerated at the Cape May County Correctional Center.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
