By Herald Staff

AVALON — Avalon Police Chief David Dean announced the arrest of a Philadelphia man following a March 26 incident.
Avalon Patrolman Matthew Sykes observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed northbound in the 2400 block of Ocean Drive at about 10:40 p.m. The vehicle was not using its headlights.
Sykes pursued the 2001Cadillac, and the driver of the vehicle refused to stop. The driver turned up and down several streets in the neighborhood in an attempt to elude police. The vehicle eventually pulled into the driveway of 4816 Fifth Ave.
Sykes and Patrolman Eric Heisman approached the vehicle, and found no one inside.
Officers did notice a bag containing marijuana in the open area of the center console of the vehicle. The patrolmen knocked on the door of the home for several minutes before an individual answered and told police that everyone was asleep. The suspect eventually went
to the front door where he was questioned by police.
Police arrested Shayquil Myrick, 20, of Philadelphia. Myrick was charged with:
Possession of marijuana under 50 grams
Failure to signal
Driving with no headlights
Reckless driving
Possession of a CDS in a motor vehicle
Eluding police
Failure to produce a driver’s license
Myrick was released on his own recognizance.
