GREEN CREEK – A report of an armed robbery brought Middle Township police to Whispering Woods Motel June 12 at 9 p.m.
Upon the arrival of patrol officers it was determined that a black male entered a motel room, brandished a silver handgun and demanded money. He fled the scene in the passenger seat of a blue Chrysler 300, with a black female driver.
At 2:30 a.m. June 13, the vehicle was observed at Rio Grande Wawa by Patrolman Lindholm.
Arrested without incident were Thorn Smith, 24, of Roselle, and Chanice Matthews, 22, of Rio Grande.
Both were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery first degree, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Smith and Matthews were held at Cape May County Correctional Center on $150,000 bail.
This case is being investigated by Middle Township Major Crime Unit, with assistance of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
