‘Open Air’ Drug Sales Result in Arrest

COURT HOUSE – Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Wildwood Police Chief Robert Regalbuto announce the arrest of Kahyyam Gales, 37, of Wildwood, for the distribution of heroin and cocaine Aug. 13.

This arrest was the conclusion of a cooperative investigation between the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force, the Wildwood Police Department Detective Division, the DEA and members of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force.

Gales was arrested Aug. 13 during the execution of a court authorized search warrant which was executed at a residence in the 100 block of West Baker Avenue. As a result of the search warrant, both heroin and “crack” cocaine were found on the property. Also, approximately $1,300 in cash was seized and will be submitted for forfeiture as being proceeds from the distribution of narcotics. This search warrant was a result of a two-month investigation regarding the “Open Air” distribution of heroin and “crack” cocaine occurring from the property. This investigation is currently ongoing and additional suspects may be charged.

Gales was charged with distribution of CDS, a crime of the third degree, possession of CDS, a crime of the third degree, and possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone, a crime of the third degree. Bail was set for Gales at $120,000, full cash, by Judge Dorothy Garrabrant, and Gales was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center.

Prosecutor Taylor advises that persons convicted of a third degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of 3 to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison. Prosecutor Taylor stated that his office will continue to work hand in hand with the local municipalities along with State and Federal Agencies to target anyone selling illegal controlled dangerous substances. The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
