WHITESBORO – Middle Township Police Department responded to a 911 call of a “gunshot” at a residence located within a mobile home park on the 1400 S. block of Route 9 in the Whitesboro section of the township Oct. 28 at 10:11 p.m., Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Middle Township Police Chief Christopher Leusner announced Oct. 29.
Upon arrival of officers at the scene, they were met by the owner of the residence, a 72-year-old man, who stated that he was sitting in an adjacent porch connected to his home, watching television. At approximately 10:10 p.m., he heard a loud bang come from the rear glass window of the porch. Upon checking the residence, he observed a small hole that appeared to have been caused by a bullet. Police personnel subsequently located one lead bullet fragment that had gone through the glass and landed on the floor directly beneath the window.
The on-going investigation is being conducted by detectives from the Middle Township Police Department and the Major Crimes Unit of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
