Ocean City Police Respond to 648 Calls, Oct. 5-11

OCEAN CITY — During the week from Sunday, Oct. 5 to Saturday, Oct. 11 October 11, 2008 members of the Ocean City Police Department responded to 648 calls for service, an average of 93 daily.
The following are some of the more serious calls:

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCMENTS:
• The Police Department would like to remind everyone that Schools are now open. Please drive carefully and Do Not Pass a School Bus with flashing red lights.
• The Police Department maintained an increase level of patrols over the Block Party weekend, with increased levels of patrols on Asbury Ave., and the Boardwalk.
• The Police Department in cooperation with the Downtown Merchants and Bike Safety Committee has installed the first prototype bicycle rack in the Downtown Shopping District. The bicycle rack is located at 8th St. & West Avenue. This is the first phase of improving bicycle safety along Asbury Avenue.
• With the upcoming Holiday Seasons approaching the Police Department will be conducting targeted patrols to improve Traffic Safety Awareness. These patrols will include DWI, Cell Phones, Seatbelts, Pedestrian Safety, Bicycle Routes, Speeding, Parking and School Zones.
• A reminder that October 15, 2008 the Ocean City Fire Dept. will be hosting a Fire Prevention Program in the 500 block of West Avenue between 5pm and 7pm. The Community Oriented Policing Unit will be available to meet with the families in attendance and display some of the equipment used by the police department.
