OCEAN CITY — Members of the Ocean City Police Department responded to 1,104 calls for service from Aug. 17-23, 2008, a daily average of 158.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCMENTS:
• The Ocean City Police Department Traffic Safety Unit is now actively running Aggressive Driving Patrols daily. This information is being broadcast on local radio stations about areas in the city that are targeted for enforcement. Please be advised that this is a zero tolerance program. Areas of concern include; pedestrian safety and crosswalks, cell phones, seat belts, speeding and road rage incidents. Since this program was started in June 2008 approximately 1800 summonses have been issued for violations targeted by the Aggressive Driving Detail.
• The week of August 18 – 22, 2008 the Ocean City Police Department is held the first ever Junior Police Academy. This was a 5 day event that teaches young adults many aspects of police work and police training. This event is being held in cooperation with the Ocean City Recreation Department and Community Policing Unit. There were 16 graduates of the academy.
• On August 22, 2008, the Ocean City Police Dept., in cooperation with Somers Point Police Dept., conducted a DWI checkpoint in the Somers point area.
