OCEAN CITY — During the summer months the Federal Aviation Association and the Atlantic City International Airport have received complaints about lasers being pointed at aircraft as they approach to land at the Egg Harbor Township facility.
Seven of those complaints have been identified as originating on the Ocean City Boardwalk out of a total of 10 complaints. The police department would like to advise that certain specific use of these laser pointers is illegal in the State of New Jersey.
A laser being pointed at a transportation vehicle, including aircrafts, trains, buses, is a violation of New Jersey Statute 2C:33-14(7) Interference with Transportation. This crime is at minimal a Disorderly Persons Offense and can escalate to a second degree crime if bodily injury is involved.
A laser being pointed at a law enforcement officer acting in the performance of his duties where the officer believes that the laser is from a sighting system or device is a violation of New Jersey Statute 2C:12-1b(11) Aggravated Assault and is a third degree crime.
The police department is working in cooperation with the local merchants to help resolve these complaints by discontinuing the sale of laser pointers. The police department would like to further advise parents of these dangers and the potential for disaster if the laser pointer is used in an inappropriate manner.
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
