North Wildwood Woman Sentenced For Involvement in Drug Related Death

By Press Release

NORTH WILDWOOD- Alina Walton, 26, of North Wildwood has been sentenced for strict liability in a drug induced death, which is a crime of the first degree.
In July 2012, the North Wildwood Police Department responded to the 200 west block of 23 Avenue for the report of a possible overdose. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive male lying on the floor of the residence. This male was subsequently transported to Cape Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. During the course of the investigation conducted by members of the North Wildwood Police Department Detective Division and Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, it was learned that Walton had injected or “shot up” the decedent with heroin, which resulted in his death.
Walton was subsequently charged with strict liability in a drug induced death.
Walton was sentenced Nov. 22 by Judge Patricia M. Wild to five years in New Jersey State Prison with the No Early Release Act provision which stipulates that the defendant must serve a minimum of 85 percent of the imposed sentence.
Prosecutor Taylor recognizes the efforts of the agencies involved which resulted in the successful conclusion of this investigation and prosecution.
The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office investigates every drug overdose death for GL evidence to locate the drug dealer and charge them under the strict liability statue. Any drug dealer that is convicted of this crime can be sentenced to up to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison at the Courts discretion.
