WILDWOOD – On May 31st at approximately 11:30 p.m., members of the Wildwood Police Department Uniformed Patrol Division responded to the 5100 block of Pacific Avenue in the City of Wildwood to investigate a report of terroristic threats involving a man with a knife.
Upon the arrival of police officers to the scene, a description of the perpetrator was obtained and broadcast to the officers on duty and to the neighboring police departments
It was ascertained that the perpetrator had entered the property of the victim, Donta Baez, a 24 year-old male who resides in the City of Wildwood, held a folding knife to the throat of the victim and threatened the victim’s life and the life of the victim’s child.
Approximately ten minutes later, a subject matching the description of the perpetrator was stopped at Glenwood and Pacific Avenues in the City of Wildwood.
The subject was identified as the perpetrator and was placed under arrest without incident. The Wildwood Police Department Detective Division followed up the investigation.
The perpetrator was identified as Donald Hughes, a. forty-nine year old North Wildvvood resident who is currently unemployed.
Mr. Hughes was charged with burglary (a crime of the second. degree), terroristic threats (a crime of the third degree), endangering the welfare of a child (a crime of the third degree), aggravated assault (a crime of the third degree), possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (a crime of the third degree), unlawful possession of a weapon (a crime of the fourth degree), and being a certain person not to be in possession of a weapon (a crime of the fourth degree),
The Honorable judge David M. DeWeese set bail on these offenses at $50,000.00 cash/bond no ten percent with a condition of release being no contact with either of the victims.
Mr. Hughes could not post the required bail and was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center.
