North Wildwood Man Arrested for Handgun Possession

NORTH WILDWOOD — North Wildwood Police responded to the 100 block of East 19th Avenue for a report of a disturbance in a residence Nov. 23 at 12:26 p.m.
Officer Christopher Lear observed Mike Hewitt walking West on 19th Avenue, away from the residence, and stopped him, near 19th 84 New Jersey Avenues. Officers Patrick Flynn and Darren Mantes arrived at the residence and further investigation revealed that Hewitt had been in possession of a BB style handgun prior to him leaving. Hewitt was arrested and a .38 caliber handgun was found on his person at the time of his arrest.
Hewitt, 33, residing in North Wildwood, was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and two counts of unauthorized persons not to possess weapons. He was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center on $50,000 full cash bail set by Judge Louis Belasco.
