By Herald Staff

NORTH CAPE MAY – On Wednesday, March 31, at approximately 8:00 am, the Lower Township Police Communication Center received a 9-1-1 call from a resident in the 100 Block of Englewood Road in the North Cape May Section of the township.
The caller was reporting that she could not wake up her sister who was unconscious and unresponsive.
Patrol Officers and the Lower Township rescue Squad responded to the residence where the victim, identified as Jean Marie Palmer, age 35, was found to be deceased upon their arrival.
Lower Township Patrol Officers secured the scene and called for investigators from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and Medical Examiner’s Office.
Investigation on scene determined that Palmer had been in the company of a male identified as, Daniel Simpson, age 37, of the 100 Block of Cormorant Way in the North Cape May Section of Lower Township earlier in the evening of March 30.
Investigators then proceeded to Simpson’s address where he was interviewed.
During that interview, it was determined that Simpson had several outstanding warrants issued for his arrest from the Middle Township and North Wildwood Municipal Courts.
Simpson was then arrested by Lower Township Detectives. During his arrest, Simpson was found to be in possession of prescription narcotics.
Further investigation by local and county investigators led to Daniel Simpson being charged on a warrant with:
Unlawful Possession of Prescription Legend Drugs
Distribution of Prescription Legend Drugs
Both being 3rd degree crimes.
A Search Warrant was then executed at Simpson’s residence as part of the ongoing investigation.
Daniel Simpson was subsequently lodged in the Cape May County Jail with bail set by Municipal Court Judge, George Neidig, at $50,000 full cash.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed against Simpson, pending an autopsy and toxicology results from the victim.
Jean Marie Palmer lived with her sister, Kimberly Palmer and was the mother of two children, ages 14 and 2 years old.
The case is currently under investigation by members of the Lower Township Police Department’s Detective Division and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
