RIO GRANDE – At this time of year, when holiday parties abound, the opportunity exists to drink too much alcohol or otherwise become an impaired driver. Police are aware this is the time of year when driving while intoxicated cases can increase.
Local police departments routinely supply the Herald with adult arrest lists which include names and alleged offenses. This is done to inform the public, and also as a deterrent to crime.
Some of those arrested have contacted the Herald asking that their name be withheld from publication, due to their employment or family situation.
It is the policy of the Herald to publish all names received, withholding none. All arrest reports received are published online, space often limits the ability to print reports.
In cases where a defendant is found not guilty or charges are dismissed, it is also Herald policy, on receipt of court documents or by an attorney’s notification in writing, to print an update which is placed atop the original story. No names are removed once they appear online.
In the event of an incorrect arrest listing, a correction will only be made upon receipt of corrected information from the police department that issued the original report.
