WILDWOOD – Three local residents of Cape May County were arrested Mar. 5.
The arrests are the result of a narcotics investigation conducted by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Task Force and members of the Wildwood Police Department.
A court authorized search warrant was executed by the Cape May County Regional S.W.A.T team in the 3700 block of Atlantic Avenue in Wildwood Mar. 5. As a result of the investigation, 146 bags of heroin were seized along with an amount of Buprenorphine, a schedule III controlled dangerous substance obtained without a valid prescription, as well as drug paraphernalia.
As a result, Christopher Clegg, 25, of Wildwood, was arrested by members of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force and Wildwood Police Department and charged with the following:
Possession of heroin, a crime of the third degree.
Possession of heroin with intent to distribute, a crime of the third degree.
Possession of buprenorphine, a crime of the third degree.
Endangering the welfare of a child, a crime of the second degree.
Possession of drug paraphernalia, a disorderly person’s offense.
Clegg was committed to the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of $100,000 cash bail on the above charges. Also arrested were Frederick Schartner, 25, of Lower Township and Kristina Bucci, 24, of Court House for outstanding warrants out of North Wildwood and Lower Township Municipal Courts. Bucci posted bail and was released with a new court date and Schartner was lodged the Cape May County Correctional Center in reference to the outstanding warrants. Shartner has since been released.
Prosecutor Taylor advises that persons convicted of a second degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of up to 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison. Prosecutor Taylor commented that his office is committed to fighting the war on drugs and will continue to make every effort to help stop the senseless amount of drug related overdoses in the county and ultimately seek out the individuals who are responsible for distributing these dangerous drugs such as heroin in the community. Prosecutor Taylor stated that these individuals will be prosecuted to the fullest extent to the law. The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendants are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
