ERMA – Lower Township Police Department’s Detective Division was conducting surveillance operations Aug. 16 for suspicious and controlled dangerous substance (CDS) related activity on Myrna Road in Erma.
Surveillance was being conducted in that area due to numerous neighborhood complaints of possible CDS related activity involving a subject by the name of Charles Omrod, 27.
While conducting the surveillance, the Detective Division observed a vehicle approach the area that was previously reported as being involved in the suspicious activity.
Detectives then observed a vehicle leave Omrod’s residence and meet with the other vehicle and a hand to hand transaction was conducted between the two vehicles.
The vehicle that left Omrod’s residence was stopped shortly after by detectives and Omrod was located in that vehicle.
Subsequent to the motor vehicle stop, a consent to search was conducted on the vehicle and cash and 133 various narcotic pills, which Omrod did not have prescriptions for, were located in the vehicle. Omrod was then placed under arrest and search incident to arrest, additional cash was found in his possession.
The total amount of money located on his person and in the vehicle was $1,704 and was seized as proceeds of narcotics sales.
Omrod was subsequently charged on a warrant with distribution of CDS, and possession of CDS, both third degree crimes. He was also charged on a summons with possession of drug paraphernalia and loitering with the intent to distribute CDS, both disorderly persons offenses.
The warrant was issued by Judge Thomas Hillegass and bail was set at $20,000 full cash. After processing, Omrod was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of bail.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty. This report is based on information received from law enforcement.
