Motor Vehicle Stop Leads to Juvenile Drug Arrest

STONE HARBOR – Officer Richard Boyle and Officer Joseph Smith conducted a motor vehicle stop of a car that was observed traveling the wrong way down a one way street Mar. 5 at approximately 8:44 p.m. Subsequent to the stop, officers smelled what they believed to be the odor of burnt marijuana while speaking with the juvenile male driver. Further investigation led to the juvenile being taken into custody for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The Cape May County Sheriff Department K-9 Unit was contacted and assisted in the investigation.
The vehicle was impounded and towed to the Stone Harbor Police Department where a search warrant for the car was later authorized by Judge Morrison.
A search of the car found additional drugs, paraphernalia and alcohol.
The juvenile was released to a parent with the motor vehicle charges. Additional charges for possessing marijuana, drug paraphernalia and alcohol while underage are pending.
The case is pending review by the Juvenile Division of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
