Motor Vehicle Pursuit Ends With Crash, 2 Arrested

WILDWOOD – The Wildwood Police Department Uniformed Patrol Division May 24, at around 9:15 p.m., observed a sedan traveling north on Atlantic Avenue at a high speed without headlights.
According to a release, officers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop; however, the vehicle fled into North Wildwood.
Minutes later, officers came upon the sedan after it crashed into a metal light pole in the area of 25th and Surf avenues, in North Wildwood. The two occupants of the vehicle fled the scene on foot but were apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.
The driver, identified as Roy J. Mendez, 20, of Deepwater, was charged with eluding, obstruction, possession of Marijuana, possession of prescription legend drugs, underage consumption of alcohol, driving while intoxicated, and additional motor vehicle violations. Mendez was released with a summons complaint under New Jersey Bail Reform guidelines.
The passenger, identified as Dalton M. DiMatteo, 18, of Pennsville, was charged with obstruction, possession of Marijuana, and possession of prescription legend drugs. DiMatteo was also released with a summons complaint under New Jersey Bail Reform guidelines.
