By Press Release

NORTH CAPE MAY – Officers from the Lower Township Police Department responded to the 3800 Block of Bayshore Road in North Cape May for a motor vehicle accident Feb. 4. Upon arrival they were informed that one of the drivers had fled on foot.
Patrolman Lou Bartleson quickly caught up with the suspect identified as Warren R. Gerhard, 59, of the North Cape May section of Lower Township. Gerhard told officers that he was not driving and he was in fact trying to catch the person who had been the operator of the car of which he was a passenger. Subsequent investigation lead to Gerhard’s arrest. Witnesses nearby identified Gerhard as the driver.
He was charged with giving false information to a law enforcement officer, operating a motor vehicle during a period of license suspension, and for driving while intoxicated.
Gerhard was placed in the Cape May County Correctional Center on $25,000 cash bail set by Municipal Court Judge Thomas Hillegass.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
