WILDWOOD – Wildwood Police Department Uniform and Detective Divisions responded to the 4500 block of Pacific Ave., located in the City of Wildwood, in connection to a reported robbery of a local business Nov. 6 at approximately 11:45 a.m. During the preliminary on-scene investigation, the victim provided detailed, relevant information pertaining to the incident and a description of the individual responsible for the robbery.
During the developing investigation, members of the uniform patrol division stopped an individual matching the description of the suspect, which was provided by the victim. The individual was detained at the Wildwood Transportation Center (4500 Washington Avenue, Wildwood) approximately one city block from the incident location. During the identification process, a positive identification was ascertained, resulting in the arrest of Travis Whitington, 28, residing in Millville, N.J. Additional physical evidence was seized concerning the investigation connecting Whitington to the robbery.
Whitington was charged with robbery, crime of the second degree, hindering apprehension, crime of the third degree and possession of a hypodermic syringe, a disorderly persons offense. Judge Dorothy Garrabrant of the Wildwood Municipal Court authorized bail at $150,000, no ten percent all charges. Whitington was unable to post bail and was remanded to the Cape May County Correctional Center.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
