BURLEIGH — On April 4, Lower Township police had broadcast information to local stations regarding a theft that had just occurred at the Acme supermarket in North Cape May in which the suspect had fled in a black Dodge Charger that had no hubcaps on the wheels.
At approximately 2:38 p.m., Middle Township Police officer Martin Lindholm stopped a vehicle on Route 147 fitting that description containing three male occupants, police said. While stopping the vehicle, a report from the Shop Rite supermarket in Rio Grande was made to the Middle Township police advising of a similar theft that had occurred minutes before, with the same vehicle description.
According to police, the driver of the vehicle, William Blair, 21, of Woodbury, and two passengers, Anthony Liquori, 20, and his brother Mario Liquori, 26, both of Manua, were detained for questioning and subsequently arrested.
The vehicle search revealed the stolen property from both stores along with several hypodermic needles.
Blair and Anthony Liquori were charged with several counts of indictable shoplifting and conspiracy, along with possession of drug paraphernalia. Both suspects were remanded to county jail in lieu of $25,000 bail each. They are also suspected in committing numerous other similar thefts throughout the state.
Mario Liquori was arrested and processed on an outstanding bench warrant out of Brooklawn.
The incident is being investigated by Lindholm and Detective First Class Allan McClure of the Middle Township Major Crimes Unit. North Wildwood and Lower Township police departments assisted with the investigation.
