RIO GRANDE — On Thur., Oct. 27, officers from the Middle Township Police department conducted a plain clothes quality of life detail in Rio Grande. As a result, 12 individuals were arrested for various violations and warrants
Over the course of the past year the Middle Township Police Department initiated a goal to improve the quality of life in Rio Grande in the area of shopping centers and along State Highway 47. The objective was to increase patrols and arrest individuals for “quality of life” issues such as open alcoholic beverages in public, public drunkenness, harassment, sleeping on bus stop benches and disorderly conduct in targeted area. Strategies used included conducting plain clothed operations in targeted areas along with increasing patrols in both marked and unmarked vehicles in shopping areas.
This effort was led by the department’s Special Services Unit, and members of the patrol division. Officers conducted 10 plain clothed details in the Rio Grande section over the course of the year resulting in the arrests of 55 individuals for various disorderly offenses. Members of the department’s Special Services Unit also executed several search warrants of residences along State Highway 47, which resulted in the seizure of narcotics and firearms and the arrests of six additional individuals for those crimes.
Township police will continue to conduct these types of details throughout the year in targeted areas to ensure the safety of residents. The public is encouraged to report suspicious activities to the police by calling 609-465-8700 or anonymously at 609-463-1833.
