Melee Results in Head Injury

WHITESBORO — On Monday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 p.m., Middle Township police received a 9-1-1 call that reported a fight in progress on Allen Street here. The reporting party stated there were approximately 30 individuals involved.
According to a release, within minutes, patrol units arrived on location and found the street vacant.
A victim was located and identified as John D. Smith, 18, of 311 Allen Street, Whitesboro. Smith had a visible head injury and told officers that he was struck in the head with a rock by an unidentified black male, who fled the scene upon police arrival.
Smith refused treatment on scene by members of the Rio Grande Rescue Squad.
