Mayor or Cop: Police Lieutenant Asks Court to Make DeMarzo Decide

By Herald Staff

WILDWOOD — A Wildwood police lieutenant is suing Mayor Gary DeMarzo, asking the court to force him to choose between his elective office and his position on the Wildwood Police Department.
A city commissioner since 2007, DeMarzo remains on unpaid leave from the department. As a commissioner, he is barred by the court from making administrative decisions regarding the police department.
On Feb. 22, an appeals court overturned previous rulings, forcing DeMarzo to make a decision within 20 days, a deadline that has long since passed.
According to the Press of Atlantic City, Superior Court Judge Valerie Armstrong has scheduled a hearing in the matter for today.
